Meet our Member-at-Large - Laura Elizabeth Cheng

BSN, RN

Angier, North Carolina

Laura is a dedicated and compassionate nurse with a personal connection to the field of endocrinology. She was diagnosed with Acromegaly in 2012 at age 22. After receiving exceptional care from nurses following surgical removal of a pituitary tumor causing her elevated growth hormone levels, she was inspired to pursue nursing as a career. Her personal experience with Acromegaly provides a unique perspective from the viewpoint of a fellow patient and nurse. Her aspiration is to provide support and encouragement to patients throughout their healthcare journey.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and is currently pursuing a Master’s of Science in Nursing at Duke University School of Nursing in their Family Nurse Practitioner program in addition to the Endocrine Certificate Program at Duke in order to advance her skills and knowledge surrounding complex endocrine disorders. Her primary nursing experience consists of work in an outpatient adult endocrinology clinic for over 5 years. Laura is also a member of the Endocrine Nurses Society, a professional organization dedicated to advancing the knowledge and skills of nurses in the field of Endocrinology.

She maintains the belief that her experience with Acromegaly has brought many positive aspects to her life and was also the guiding light towards a fulfilling career path.
